Man Flies 4 Hours so Girlfriend Won’t Travel Alone: ‘Settle for Less? No’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Many people think romance is dead, but one boyfriend’s sweet gesture to prove how much his girlfriend means to him has shown that modern-day romance does still exist.

Angeline Charlim, 22, shared a video on TikTok (@angelliinneee) showing the moment her boyfriend, Heintrick Tan stepped off a four-hour flight just to come and see her. But after flying from the Philippines to Indonesia to see his girlfriend, Tan barely had any time to rest because he was only there briefly to see Charlim and accompany her on the flight back to the Philippines.

The idea of flying 1,000 miles to the Philippines by herself was a daunting prospect for Charlim, but thankfully her boyfriend ensured she wouldn’t have to go it alone. She told Newsweek that she was “very touched” by his romantic gesture, and she appreciated all the effort he went to.

“He was only visiting Indonesia for two days in order to pick me up, as he wanted to show my parents that he’s serious about our relationship,” Charlim said. “They were worried about a solo female flyer traveling to another country, so he wanted to accompany me the whole way there.

“I am very grateful to have such a considerate man in my life who thought of a way to bring me over to see him. That made me feel extra appreciated and loved…”

The whole experience was very last minute, as Tan only booked his flight to Indonesia two days beforehand. A direct flight from the Philippines to Indonesia takes just over four hours, with indirect flights taking six to eight hours instead.

When Charlim saw her partner walking through the airport arrivals, she said it felt “so surreal” because she’d never imagined anyone would go to such great lengths just for her.

“His actions showed me that where there’s a will, there’s a way,” she added.

The Social Media Response

Charlim couldn’t resist sharing her boyfriend’s thoughtful gesture on social media to show that romance is still alive. The clip has gone viral already, with over 182,600 views and more than 14,700 likes on TikTok in just a matter of days.

Layered over the footage, the text reads: “Settle for less? No.”

Since sharing the video, she has been delighted by the outpouring of love and support received from social media users.

“There’s been so many positive reactions from the viewers,” Charlim told Newsweek. “They can also see the effort he is putting into our relationship, and many have said they also hope to be in this kind of relationship in the future.

“Every relationship has its own ups and downs, no matter how perfect it seems. There are always sacrifices that you need to make in order to make it work, especially for long-distance relationships. These sacrifices will make the relationship stronger.”

TikTok users were full of praise for Tan’s sweet act to make his girlfriend’s life easier. One comment on the video reads: “Wow the effort!!”

Another TikToker responded: “TOO CUTE.”

While another person joked: “Where did [you] find him?”
