Every parent knows the feeling of panic after dozing off for longer than planned, but one Texas mom got some unexpected viral content as a result of her snooze.
Trinity Gomez, mom of one, had set up her phone to capture a peaceful moment with her baby, but things didn’t exactly go to plan.
“My daughter [Reyna] had fallen asleep, and as a mom, you always want the ‘candid’ photos and videos, so I set my phone up to capture it,” the 22-year-old said.

Every parent knows how easy it is to fall into the ‘nap trap’ alongside their little one and thanks to Reyna, Trinity Gomez’s clip became a viral sensation.

Snuggling up beside her for the perfect shot, Gomez ended up falling asleep herself. The short clip shows Gomez and her 16-month-old fast asleep in bed, but with her mom still napping, Reyna is seen grabbing the phone and curiously putting it right up to her face. Waking up in a panic, Gomez retrieved her phone, only to find it had been recording for the entire 40-minute nap.
Gomez told Newsweek what happened when she finally discovered the unexpected footage on her phone: “I woke up and instantly shot up because I knew I didn’t want to fall asleep! I grabbed my phone, and my jaw dropped,” she said.
“I can definitely say that lying down when your kiddo is asleep is the biggest trap, I fell asleep so fast,” Gomez said. The text overlay on her video summed it up perfectly: “POV: you were just trying to take a cute video but end up falling asleep for the whole nap.”
Pinned to her profile under the handle @trinitygomez, the clip has clocked up over two million views, as well as hundreds of comments from other TikTok users who made light of Reyna’s expression when she woke up.
“The baby woke up like they were late for work,” one TikTok user joked, while another commented, “She was like, ‘so I am the influencer now?'”.
A third user shared that their daughter answered a phone call while she was sleeping. “Woke up to her babbling to the phone operator the lady was trying to hold her laugh,” they wrote.
Originally sharing the clip for the benefit of her already-established community and friends on TikTok, Gomez didn’t realize thousands of others would relate to the all-too-familiar mom nap mishap.
Gomez reported that her phone was “so slow” after the lengthy video was recorded, but she was able to laugh about it later.
“Every mom has been through this and to have it on video. That will definitely make you laugh as a mom,” she told Newsweek.
