Plane Passenger Orders In-Flight Meal, Can’t Cope With What She’s Served

A woman was left disappointed by her food on a flight, taking to TikTok to show what she was expecting versus what she got.

Eleonora Juhos, 29, who is from Slovakia, was hoping for a tasty lasagna on her flight from Vienna to Tenerife. However, she wasn’t too happy with what was put in front of her, describing it as “even worse than it looked.”

“Even though I didn’t have high expectations, I was still surprised by how unappealing the meal looked,” she told Newsweek. “Unfortunately, it didn’t taste any better.”

Newsweek has contacted Ryanair for comment via email and through its press office contact form.

Juhos shared two photos on TikTok in a post that has received over 7,000 views, one showing the photo of a lasagna used in the airline’s menu and then what she actually received.

“I knew I wasn’t getting gourmet food for €12.50 on a low-cost flight, but the presentation in Ryanair’s in-flight magazine and on the packaging was quite misleading,” she said.

The first image shows an appetizing photo of a fresh-looking lasagna, while the second image shows a cheese-topped dish in a plastic container with clear film peeled off from the top.

“I didn’t feel it was worth raising with the cabin crew, as there wasn’t much they could do about it,” Juhos told Newsweek. “I didn’t expect any compensation. They send out a survey after each flight, so that is a more suitable way to provide feedback.”

“This was my first time [ordering food], though I’ve flown with them many times,” she added. “Since this flight was over five hours, I decided to try it, and the only veggie option was the lasagna, which unfortunately had of a few small pieces of courgette in a watery ketchup-like sauce.

“I hate wasting food, so I tried to eat some of it, and that’s actually why I posted about it. My intention wasn’t to complain, but to warn others about the quality and encourage them to think twice before ordering food on Ryanair.”

Ryanair is Europe’s leading airline based on passenger traffic, according to Statista, and offers flights between over 200 airports across the continent. The Irish airline is a popular option for budget travelers around Europe.

In 2023, Ryanair carried over 182 million passengers. The airline offers a number of in-flight food offerings such as vegan lasagna, Thai green curry, baguettes, and grilled cheese sandwiches.

TikTok users took to the comments of Juhos’ post to share their thoughts. “Actually better than I expected for plane food!” wrote Roya Zand.

Meanwhile, @TravelMomAdventures said: “Oh Ryanair food, I wish I could have warned you.”

However, not everyone thought it looked that bad. One person with the moniker Queen Of Poses commented: “Looks fine to me.”

“What did you expect of a plane food? A 5 star restaurant one?” said @karo.
