Ravens Linebacker Slams Chiefs ‘Unacceptable’ Medical Staff

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy is not happy with the Kansas City Chiefs medical staff.

On Thursday, in the Ravens’ season-opening loss at Arrowhead against the Chiefs, Van Noy sustained a fractured orbital bone while rushing quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the third quarter. Van Noy’s helmet went under his chin strap, leading to the fracture.

Van Noy went back to the locker room for care but said on the McCoy & Van Noy podcast Tuesday — his podcast with Gerald McCoy — that there was a lack of urgency from the Chiefs medical staff. He called it “unacceptable” and “unprofessional.”

“I was disappointed in the way the training staff of the Chiefs handled the situation,” Van Noy said on his podcast. “I was supposed to see an ophthalmologist … and they took an entire quarter to get down to talk to me in the locker room, which to me, is unacceptable.”

“The way it took time was super unprofessional to me, especially because there were people in there, too,” Van Noy continued. “One of the doctors, or the friend of the doctor was in there double-cup fisted, styrofoam cups like everything was good and I just felt that was unprofessional.”

Van Noy believes there should have been much more urgency in the way the Chiefs training staff handled his injury.

“To me, I just feel like, as a player, people have that expectation of you being professional, handling business,” Van Noy said. “And in a time of need, I wanted that from them, and I felt like I didn’t get it.

“Because then you get into, like, ‘Did they take their time because I’m a Ravens player? Blah-blah-blah-blah-blah.’ Those are just the thoughts that go into it. I don’t think it was that. But at the same time, I don’t want them to come out and apologize. It is what it is. Like, it’s all good. I don’t need them to come out with a press release and say they apologize, ‘We take care of our players, blah-blah-blah.’ I experienced it.”

In the recent NFL Players Association report card, the Chiefs received an “F” for their training staff. Van Noy now understands why.

“I understand how Kansas City, the players have given that training room an F,” Van Noy said, “because with my experience, I would have probably gave them an F, too.”

Van Noy is in his 11th season in the league and second with the Ravens. He’s accumulated 501 tackles, 56 tackles for loss, and 42.5 sacks across 143 games with the Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers, and Ravens.
