From the return of Gerry, last season’s Golden Bachelor, on The Golden Bachelorette, to a Community reunion on The Masked Singer, and a chat with the latest cast off on Survivor, we’ve got a ton of reality TV to recap. (Spoilers ahead, you’re warned.)

Make sure you’re subscribed to the For the Culture newsletter for all things entertainment and to the Parting Shot Podcast with H. Alan Scott for celebrity interviews and reactions to what’s going on in pop culture and how it interacts with politics and news.

THE GOLDEN BACHELORETTE – “103” – Joan and her men dive into another exciting week, starting with a glitzy outing in Las Vegas, a spirited kickball game and a whimsical horseback ride. In the end, a surprise guest joins Joan as she faces a pivotal decision WEDNESDAY, OCT. 2 (8:00-10:01 p.m. EDT) on ABC.

Disney/Gilles Mingasson

Joan is struggling y’all, and it’s hard to watch. (Like emotionally difficult to watch.) She went on her dates and stuff. (Her and Pascal went to Vegas, her and Jonathan went horseback riding, and then there was a group date kickball game, which sounds like the absolute worst idea for a date ever.) But it was the cocktail party before the Rose Ceremony where things really went down. Joan told the men how much she missed her family and how she’s not fully over her husband, who died in 2021.

“I don’t know if I ever really will be because John was a huge part of my life,” she said.

While the bachelors comforted her, Gerry Turner, last season’s Golden Bachelor, showed up. Her and Joan talked about being widows and how hard it is to move on and accept love when you’ve lost the love of your life.

“I know it’s been a lot sooner for you,” Turner said. “It’s going to be a lot tougher for you than it was for me, and it was tough for me.”

This moment was made for crying, and guess what? The tears came! Ultimately, she went back to the group of guys and gave out roses to Chock, Jordan, Gary, Keith, Charles L., Mark, Dan and Guy.

The Golden Bachelorette airs Wednesdays on ABC.

The Masked Singer

It was “Footloose Night” on The Masked Singer, and they certainly cut loose. Unfortunately, the celebrity in the Showbird costume wasn’t able to convince the judges they were worthy of staying with their version of “Let’s Hear It For the Boy” by Deniece Williams. After being voted out, the Showbird took off their mask to reveal themselves to be… Community star Yvette Nicole Brown, which delighted judge and former Community co-star Ken Jeong.

The Masked Singer airs Wednesday nights on Fox.

You know what I love about this season of Survivor? We’re three episodes in, and every week a new tribe has gone to Tribal Council. I just hate the seasons where it’s the same tribe week after week.

Even though it feels like everybody has been rooting for Andy to be voted out after his very public meltdown in episode one–they even included a dig at Andy from host Jeff Probst during the challenge, where Probst commented on Andy’s poor performance during the challenge despite Andy’s tribe winning the challenge–this week Aysha was blindsided and voted out. She’s a popular Survivor podcast host, which does make you wonder if her popularity worked against her.

If you’re a diehard Survivor fan, listen to my chat with Aysha on Twitter, Facebook, or here on Newsweek.

Survivor airs Wednesday nights on CBS.

Big Brother

We’re down to the final five houseguests, and things are getting tense! They’re still dealing with last week’s double eviction of Leah and Angela, and now Makensy, as head of household, has nominated Kimo and Rubina for eviction. Their only chance of avoiding eviction is to win a veto. The live eviction airs Thursday at 8 pm ET on CBS.

(Part of me wants Rubina to be voted out just so she can be reunited with her Big Brother fling Tucker, who was voted out earlier this season. Then, the two of them can take their romance to The Challenge and be an epic reality TV show couple. I know I’m basically writing fan fiction here, but I love them, and I love love, so let me have my thing.)

Big Brother airs Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday nights on CBS.

Dancing with the Stars

Unfortunately, the ballroom was closed this week because the rest of the country was watching the Vice Presidential debate. The dancers will be back next week.

New episodes of Dancing With the Stars air on Tuesdays on Disney+ and ABC.

Love is Blind

Netflix just dropped episodes one through six of a new season of Love is Blind, and it’s clear this season is going to be a wild one. This season, we’ve got singles from the Washington, D.C. area. (Perhaps because it’s an election year? Probably not, but I’m sure a healthy debate will be had about something. Probably tacos.)

A lot has happened in the first six episodes–and to be honest, we’re still trying to get through them–but one thing is clear… there’s going to be a lot of drama. (Especially considering their time in Mexico has offered some great insight into whether these couples will work out or not.)

New episodes of Love is Blind will drop on October 9 on Netflix.

The Voice

This week was week two of blind auditions, and we’ve already seen some firsts for this season of The Voice. Gail Bliss is the oldest singer this season at 61 years old, and group 323 is the first trio of the season. There’s also a Coach Replay button in the mix this season, where Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, and Michael Bublé, get one use of it to choose their contestant. McEntire and Snoop Dogg have already used theirs. The auditions continue next week.

New episodes of The Voice air Mondays on NBC.
