A woman’s story about how she finally found love “in the wild,” and it being different to how she expected, has resonated with viewers online.
As modern dating continues to be dominated by swipes and algorithms, one woman’s journey of finding love the old-fashioned way has sparked conversation online. A viral TikTok video by creator @samcity_, shared how she met her boyfriend in real life, despite having used dating apps in the past. Her story, which has been liked more than 6,100 times has struck a chord, leading to a flood of positive reactions and shared experiences.
“Despite me being in the best relationship I’ve ever been in my life, I wasn’t actually very sure about my boyfriend after our first date,” @samcity_ told her followers.
Reflecting on her dating history, she said that the majority of her first dates since university had been through dating apps. However, this method often left her disappointed, as she constantly sought an immediate romantic connection that rarely materialized.
“When I was going through dating app dating, I was rarely going on a second date because I was looking for an instant romantic connection after the first date,” the poster added.
However, everything changed when she met her boyfriend “in the wild”—through mutual friends. While there was an immediate connection, it initially felt platonic.
“We were obsessed with each other pretty quick, but I didn’t feel like sparks were flying,” she said.
It wasn’t until their first official date that she began to see him in a different light.
“Our first date was the first time I saw him like that, and I wouldn’t even say it was romantic because we were trying to take things slow,” the woman said. “So it just felt like we were hanging out.”
During that date, they discussed serious topics—something she initially feared would lead to a lack of romantic chemistry. Contrary to her expectations, this slower, more organic approach to developing their relationship led to the most passionate relationship she had ever experienced.
“I used to really think you had to have romantic chemistry right away, but now realizing that can definitely grow,” she added.
Her video, chronicling this unconventional path to romance, has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, with many cheering her on and sharing similar experiences.
Her story resonates with many who are disillusioned by the high-pressure environment of online dating.
“This is validating,” one viewer, @jaslouu, said. “Going on a second date today with someone I don’t feel sparks but feel neutral about? And we communicate well.”
Another, @callheroppa, added: “This! My deepest loves were slow burns. When I felt it too fast it was usually just infatuation that wore off real fast.”
“This gives me hope, when I will know I will know,” a third viewer, @divjotsainii, posted.
