High-profile wide receivers and elite athletes across the NFL will discuss football and their lives away from the sport with Samuel and co-host Liv Moods.
“I can’t wait to give fans a true glimpse into the lives of their favorite wide receivers and the real conversations we share with each other about football and life,” Samuel told Bleacher Report. “B/R is the perfect platform to host the show, and I’m excited to join their team of athletes doing new things in the social space.”
Cleats and Convos with Deebo Samuel is one of many athlete-led shows for Bleacher Report. Other series include On Base with Mookie Betts and The Edge featuring the Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons.
Parsons is president of Bleacher Report Gridiron, and welcomed Samuel as the latest athlete to join the team.
“The addition of Deebo and Cleats and Convos to our roster of athlete-led shows is a huge win for the B/R Gridiron team and, most importantly, the fans who look to B/R for real sports content,” Parsons said in his announcement. “Deebo and I are ultimate competitors on the field, but I couldn’t be happier about welcoming him to the B/R Gridiron team.”
The announcement marks the first new football show for Bleacher Report since Parsons became president of Bleacher Report Gridiron.
The announcement of Samuel’s new show follows a solid performance in the 49ers’ season opener on Monday Night Football.
Samuel scored San Francisco’s first touchdown of the regular season. The receiver’s 2-yard rushing touchdown against the New York Jets put the 49ers up 13-7.
Samuel recorded 54 yards through 5 receptions in Monday’s 32-19 win over the Jets. In the absence of Christina McCaffrey, head coach Kyle Shanahan asked the dual-threat player to contribute in the run game. Samuel added eight carries and 23 yards.
“Earlier today I got the news and we went from there. … Kyle came to me, he was like you’re going to contribute a little bit in the run game and you know me I’m all for whatever helps the team win,” Samuel said postgame.
San Francisco heads to Minnesota to take on former backup quarterback Sam Darnold and the Vikings. The 49ers haven’t won in Minnesota for more than three decades, but Samuel and his teammates look to change that on Sunday.
