The Miami Dolphins have placed Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler “Snoop” Huntley on injured reserve, the team announced Friday.
Huntley joined the Dolphins in mid-September after starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa went down with a concussion.
He made three starts for Miami, going 1-2 while completing 59.1 percent of his passes for 377 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

However, this past week, Huntley suffered a right shoulder injury and didn’t return to the game. Now, he’s going on injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss at least the next month.

Fortunately for the Dolphins, they’re getting Tagovailoa back this week. The Pro Bowl quarterback hasn’t played since he left the team’s Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills with another scary concussion.
There were questions about whether or not Tagovailoa would continue his NFL career, but he was adamant about coming back, and now officially will in Week 8. On Friday, Tagovailoa officially cleared concussion protocol.
“After going through the process and having a practice where we were able to initiate some contact with him,” McDaniel said, “and then he met with an independent doctor and was fully cleared. He was out of the protocol.”
McDaniel is impressed with the work Tagovailoa has done over the last month-plus to stay connected to the team.
“He’s done an outstanding job of not doing anything but controlling what he can control,” McDaniel said of Tagovailoa’s recovery. “So in that, he’s put his best foot forward to take care of himself as well as to be the leader of this football team, just in a different way. In all of that, he’s been fully engaged, but he’s also become very aware that he is not interested in becoming a coach anytime soon, that his love is playing football.
“He’s eager as everybody is. If you had any questions about how valuable he is, I think it’s pretty obvious.”
The Dolphins went 1-3 without Tagovailoa, but are still within striking distance now that their star quarterback is returning. Tagovailoa assured reporters he’s not worried about whatever risks come with continuing to play in the NFL.
“Well, how much risk do we take when we get up in the morning to go drive to work? Get into a car crash, I don’t know,” Tagovailoa said this week. “Every time we all suit up, we’re all taking a risk that we could potentially get hurt, whether it’s a concussion, a broken bone, anything. You get up off of the bed the wrong way, you potentially could risk you spraining your ankle.
“There’s just risk in any and everything and I’m willing to play the odds, that’s it.”
Tagovailoa’s return will come this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
