NASCAR Team Shuts Down With Immediate Effect In Shock Announcement

Bret Holmes Racing has announced an immediate closure of its operations. The team, a fixture in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, revealed that they would not participate in the series for the remainder of the current 2024 season. With this decision, driver and team owner Bret Holmes now finds himself a free agent.

Formed with the primary goal of succeeding in stock car racing, the team had successfully captured an ARCA Menards Series championship in 2020. This victory came against the odds, with the team operating on limited resources and older equipment. Their technical alliance with Spire Motorsports was instrumental in supporting their operations as BHR advanced into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

Holmes himself has shown promise throughout his career, clocking in two top-five finishes and four top-10 finishes across 56 career starts. His record placed him 18th in the series standings, although he did face certain setbacks, such as his absence at the recent Homestead-Miami Speedway race. The absence of BHR’s No. 32 car at the race hinted at growing difficulties within the team.

In a heartfelt statement, BHR confirmed the news to social media, writing:

“As of today, Bret Holmes Racing has made the difficult decision to close our doors and will not be returning to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for the 2024 or 2025 season.

“To all of our fans, sponsors, friends, families – and most importantly our team – we thank you all for the support and commitment shown to BHR around every turn.

“We appreciate each and every one of you for the roles you played in making each race day memorable.

“Following the closing of BHR, Bret Holmes looks to continue racing in the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.”

The departure of key personnel, such as Mike Shiplett, former crew chief now with Niece Motorsports, also contributed to BHR’s closure. Financial challenges also persisted, as indicated by fluctuating sponsorship opportunities despite backing from companies like Precision Garage Door Service and First Bank of Alabama.

This comes with only three races left of the 2024 season in Homestead-Miami, Martinsville, and Phoenix.
