Fox Business Host Calls Out Trump’s Rhetoric as He Blames Biden, Harris for Shooting

Fox Business anchor Neil Cavuto criticized former President Donald Trump after the Republican claimed on Monday that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were responsible for inciting the recent assassination attempt against him in Florida.

As the election approaches and early voting underway, Trump has ramped up his attacks following a debate many experts deemed “rocky.” In the past week, he has spread baseless claims about Haitian immigrants in Ohio abducting and eating pets and says he hates pop star Taylor Swift after her endorsement of Vice President Harris.

Cavuto discussed Trump’s recent remarks, where Trump argued that Biden and Harris’ rhetoric contributed to the violence against him, on Fox Business’ Cavuto: Coast to Coast on Monday. Cavuto pointed out that while Trump was criticizing incendiary rhetoric, he had made numerous incendiary comments himself in the past two weeks.

“I’m glad the former president is okay, but this is the same guy who blamed Haitian immigrants for eating cats and dogs. He’s also the same person who argued that the administration condoned babies being killed after delivery—both of which were outright distortions,” Cavuto said.

“He wasn’t called out during the debate, despite what you say about the moderators. He’s also made several racist comments about Kamala Harris. So I understand the vitriolic times, but he’s now focusing on his opponents, claiming they’re the reason he’s being targeted,” he added.

On Monday, Trump spoke to Fox News Digital, a day after Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun through a fence near the Florida golf course where Trump was playing, and blamed both President Biden and Vice President Harris’ without evidence for inspiring another apparent attempt on his life.

“They do it with a combination of rhetoric and lawsuits they wrap me up in,” Trump said. “These are the things that dangerous fools, like the shooter, listen to. That is the rhetoric they listen to, and the same with the first one,” he added.

The Republican former president’s statements are a sharp departure from how he reacted after an assassination attempt in July during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in which a bullet grazed his ear.

Then, Trump called for national unity, saying in a social media post that “it is more important than ever that we stand United.” A few days later, though, the former president returned to his usual commentary where he sharply criticized Democrats and his policies.

Tensions between Trump and Cavuto are longstanding, with Trump recently taking a jab at Cavuto after the anchor suggested that Trump lost the debate to Harris by a wide margin.

“Neil Cavuto, Fox’s Lowest Rated Anchor, is one of the WORST on Television. I actually prefer the losers at CNN and MSDNC,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website Wednesday.
