Mary Trump, the estranged niece of former President Donald Trump has issued a warning over “vile, creepy, cruel and violent,” Republican vice-presidential candidate, JD Vance.
In her Thursday Substack newsletter, titled More Than One Way to Lose, Mary Trump shared her concerns about a potential Vance administration if the Republican ticket were to win in November.
“JD Vance’s running mate is an almost 80-year-old fascist and authoritarian who happens to be deeply unwell, both physically and psychologically,” Mary Trump said. “Forty-year-old Vance is also a fascist and, if Donald gets back into the White House, he will almost certainly become president at some point during the next term.”
Mary Trump’s latest post comes after the vice-presidential debate between Vance and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, in what is likely to be the last debate of the 2024 election.

Vance has since been praised by voters, pollsters and pundits for emerging as the slight victor, and Donald Trump was “absolutely thrilled,” with his performance in the debate.
Mary Trump, who is the daughter of Donald Trump’s late brother Fred and the author of the book Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created The World’s Most Dangerous Man, published in 2020, is a frequent critic of her uncle, and was “unhappy,” with how Tuesday’s debate unfolded.
She said that having a “really decent guy like Walz,” agreeing with Vance in turn normalizes and lends viability to “one of the most abnormal dangerous politicians in America.”
Mary Trump described Vance as a “notorious misogynist who hates women in a way that is deep and multi-faceted.”
Vance has been criticized for his comments and attitude towards women. A resurfaced comment he made in a 2021 interview with Fox News has attracted was widely controversial and attracted criticism from high profile celebrities including Taylor Swift and Jennifer Anniston.
Mary Trump also voiced concerns about the popularity bounce that Vance is experiencing post-debate.
“Polls before the debate showed that Vance was the most unpopular vice-presidential candidate in American history, with only 30 percent of Americans viewing him favorably,” she wrote. “After the debate, that number jumped 11 percent to 41 percent. That’s a problem.”
According to post-debate polling from CBS and YouGov, both candidates saw a popularity pick up after the debate. Walz’s favorability rose to 60 percent from 52, and Vance’s went from 40 to 49.
